Solar Project Engineer

THE COMPANY

Solivus are a fast-growing and exciting scale-up business, having recently completed a Series A investment. We are focused on commercialising cutting-edge lightweight solar PV technology for commercial buildings. THE ROLE

As we run an EPC model, you will work closely with our EPC partners and play a key part in client and third party discussions. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will often be the technical lead in meetings, site visits and project reviews.

You will be joining us at an exciting time, with the chance to learn about the next generation of lightweight PV technology and contribute to the development of rooftop, energy storage and off grid solutions. As a scale-up, the role offers broad exposure across the business, including electrical system design, feasibility studies, site surveys, product development and time on site during construction and O&M activities.

As the Project Engineer, you will lead the engineering elements of each project from early concept through to construction and O&M. You will also support our sales team with technical input, including client calls, on site meetings and occasional international travel.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of attending our London office two to three days per week, with the remaining days worked from home. This may change as the business grows.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales

• Provide early technical insight to support initial feasibility discussions

• Advise on product selection, mounting approach and building suitability

• Support the sales team by producing high level design work where required

• Join early client conversations to help secure feasibility and design work

Feasibility Study and Pre Construction

• Gather and review information ahead of detailed design

• Attend site visits to collect additional data to inform design

• Work closely with EPC partners, sub-contractors, customers, suppliers and structural engineers to understand project constraints and requirements

• Produce feasibility design packs including layout drawings, mounting method details, Bill of Materials and yield assessments

• Prepare design packs and scope of works documents for issue to EPC partners or sub-contractors

• Review proposals submitted by EPC partners and sub-contractors

• Review third party engineering reports (specifically structural reports) and incorporate any requirements into the design

• Provide technical support for planning applications

• Manage G99 submissions and any associated network conditions

Construction

• Maintain regular communication with the installation team, either through the PM or directly

• Identify and escalate potential blockers early and support the resolution

• Provide reactive technical support during installation when issues arise

• Visit sites where required to review progress and installation quality

• Review as built drawings and commissioning documents

Post Construction

• Produce client handover documentation

• Ensure new projects are fully on boarded into internal processes for O&M

• Provide training for clients or internal teams where required, for example guidance on using online generation portals

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designing specifically Rooftop commercial solar PV systems in the UK.

• A degree (or relevant qualification) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a similar field.

• Experience working with Structural Engineers and interpreting reports

• Experience designing with AutoCAD or similar software

• Experience create yield estimates using PVSyst or similar software

• Excellent level of oral and written communication skills.

Desirable

• Additional qualifications relating to electrical regulations, design or installation in the UK

• Health and Safety qualification

• Experience with G99 applications for 100kWp+ solar PV projects

• Project management / Site management qualifications and/experience

• UAV operational qualifications and/experience

• Experience with PowerBI, HOMER Pro or HOMER Grid.

• £40,000 to £60,000 depending on experience.
